Bush Hogging
The understory, AKA Bush, is a prime source of fire fuel.
Bush hogging is a term that is loosely used to describe the reduction or elimination of the shrubs, small trees and weeds growing under the main canopy of branches on the large trees that make up your forest. Bush Hog is a brand name that became synonymous with the act of cutting down that understory, like Velcro is to reattach-able fastening systems. The point is that the understory needs to be reduced to improve the health of your forest. If the understory is overgrown and catches fire it will burn much hotter and higher; that is what kills all the trees and increases risk to yours and neighboring properties and structures. Fire through low grasses will more likely spare your trees and kill the weeds. Call us for help to make your acreage more usable and fire-wise!
